Kevin VanStory

Kevin has been a member of the Neosho/Newton County community since moving here in 1984. He knows many of you from his days working at Don's Honda in Neosho where Kevin worked as General Manager and grew that store into a Top 100 Honda motorcycle dealership. Moving from motorcycles to real estate in 1998, Kevin has facilitated many transactions both residential and commercial. Several hundred employment opportunities were created in the Newton County and Joplin areas from these commercial transactions. You may recognize some of these businesses: Arvest Bank in Neosho, Freightliner on 86 Highway, Pinnacle Pet, All Dogs Dream, Wildcat Donuts, Kelly Anderson Group (formerly Impact), Haas building for Missouri Family Services Department, Big Apple Travel Plaza. As a Real Estate Broker, Kevin has supported community organizations such as Hope Kitchen, Teen Challenge, Food Basket Brigade, Bright Futures, Neosho High School Band, ROTC, and athletic programs. You may also recognize Kevin from his decade of coaching youth soccer teams for Neosho Recreation Center. Community involvement is important to Kevin, and he believes it is better to give than to receive.

The Platform

Let's Talk Community

  • If elected to Presiding Commissioner for Newton County, Kevin VanStory will focus on positive planning for Newton County's future. This has many facets which Kevin feels will best be accomplished with community input. He welcomes your insight and promotes an open door policy for communication.
  • Among his priorities for the community are maintenance and improvement of county roads and bridges. Clarity and transparency in management of county funds is vital and necessary. This is a change Kevin will promote.
  • Positive future planning includes proactive business growth development. Newton County's ideal location in the center of the U.S. makes it prime for tremendous business growth. With the recent completion of the Bella Vista I-49 bypass, we must take action now to capture the business opportunities that are in front of us.

Let's Take Control

  • Kevin believes no county commission should be the subject of or involved in lawsuits due to statutory overreach or non-compliance.  Currently, the Newton County Commission is party to multiple lawsuits, all of which could have been avoided by statutory adherence and clarity in communication. We have to take control to avoid these issues in the future.
  • Floodwater control is a major concern for Newton County and Neosho residents. An open line of communication between county and city governments could mediate this situation dramatically. If elected, Kevin has several ideas and plans to mediate these major issues.
  • Judges, not county commissioners,  belong in the courthouse and Kevin supports this issue.
